Chiropractic

The philosophy, science and art of things natural

Do you, a friend or a family member suffer from chronic pain in the back, neck or joints? Have you been told you have to live with it, or that you need frequent pain medication? Pain medications are rough on stomachs, kidneys and livers.

Chiropractic care is overwhelmingly the best treatment for neck and back pain. It gets you back to work, to playing sports and to an active lifestyle faster. It works to correct the cause of your problem, not mask the symptoms.

Conditions commonly treated

  • Motor Vehicle Accident Injuries
  • Work Comp Injuries
  • Back Pain
  • Neck Pain
  • Headache
  • Arm Pain and Numbness
  • Leg Pain and Numbness

Auto accident? All Massachusetts personal injury protection (PIP) plans cover chiropractic, and no referral is needed.

Laser Therapy

Photobiomodulation: painless, drug-free

Laser therapy, also called Low Level Laser Therapy or Photobiomodulation, is a painless, non-invasive, drug-free treatment used for pain syndromes, arthritic conditions, sports injuries, wounds, fractures and neurological conditions. It suits any time you need non-invasive pain control, when conventional therapies haven't worked, or when you want healing to move faster.

What to expect in a session

Most people find it quite passive: a slight tingling or mild warmth, and often nothing at all. Treatments may last about 10 minutes, and your chiropractor will often combine them with soft tissue work. Most conditions take 10 to 15 treatments; it can take 6 sessions or more before a marked change, though some people feel immediate but temporary relief after the first.

Conditions it can treat

  • Arthritis
  • Back Pain
  • Neck Pain
  • Hip Pain
  • Headaches
  • Sprain Injury
  • Strain Injury
  • Shoulder Injury
  • Rotator Cuff Tears
  • Tendonitis
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Knee Injury
  • Plantar Fasciitis

How does laser light heal?

Lasers supply energy to the body as non-thermal photons of light. Near-infrared light penetrates deepest, optimizing the immune response of the blood, with anti-inflammatory effects. It promotes healing by increasing ATP and activating cell enzymes, raising growth factor response and endorphin response, and strengthening the immune system through increased lymphocytes.

Questions we hear a lot

Not sure about coverage? Our staff will photocopy your insurance card and call to check your benefits.

Most insurance plans have chiropractic coverage; some do not. Some have excellent coverage, some very limited. Our staff will always take the time to copy your insurance card and call to check your benefits.

All personal injury protection (PIP) plans for auto insurance in Massachusetts cover chiropractic. If you have an accident we can take care of you and bill your insurance company. No referral needed.

It depends on the specifics of each case. We are always happy to help find out your coverage.

All work compensation plans cover chiropractic and you do not need a referral. Call us and we will help with all the paperwork.

Yes. No referral is needed for most plans. Medicare covers chiropractic treatment, but not examinations or x-rays. We have a discounted exam/x-ray fee if paid at the time of service.

Yes, with an authorization from your primary care physician. If you have Medicare as your primary insurance, MassHealth may cover as a secondary.

Yes, with an authorization from your primary care physician.

We are sensitive to our patients' needs and have very affordable pay-as-you-go plans, or discounted plans if pre-paid.

Your needs are determined by the attending doctor. Some patients need only a few visits, some a few months, based on a comprehensive case history, examination and spinal x-rays if necessary. Allow an hour for your first visit; regular visits may take only 15 to 30 minutes.

No. It's one of the most common misconceptions. Many people choose to keep going because it's the best they've felt in years, or because they come to understand how much chiropractic can help beyond the neck, back and headaches. Once a person understands its value, "once you go, you always have to go" sounds as silly as saying it about the dentist.

Usually modern chiropractic care is very comfortable. If you're already in acute pain and the tissues are tender and inflamed, an adjustment may be briefly sore. Always tell the doctor if it is.

Chiropractic care is primarily the detection and correction of vertebral subluxation: spinal misalignments that can interfere with normal nerve flow. The nervous system is the master control of the body, including the organs, glands, muscles and immune system, and the better it works, the healthier you will be.
“I have been a patient at Bass River since the beginning. It keeps me centered, out of pain, and the massage therapy totally relaxes me.”

Testimonials

In our patients' words

“Dear Dr. Reida, thank you so much for all your gentle and ever so effective treatment over the past few years. Your knowledge was always so helpful to me.”

Ann B.

“Dear Dr. Reida, you are a magnificent, if not terrific, chiropractor! … Let me thank you and your staff for their kindnesses and efficiency during all my visits — 900 of them — should be just 9, actually. You are the best!!!”

Naomi O.

“Marianne's massage was great. She did a great job getting my shoulder relaxed and knot free. It was a nice way to spend my birthday!”

Katie E.

“I met Dr. Reida on January 5th, 1982 after I'd been injured in a job related incident. I'd gone to orthopedic surgeons, my primary care doctor and other chiropractors for relief from sciatica. Dr. Reida prescribed a regimen of treatments every morning at 5:45 AM for the following 6+ months, with no payments due until I was satisfactorily healed. Well 29+ years later, and able to function without pain (or surgery), I still am manipulated and kept healthy by this generous, caring, and incredibly knowledgeable Doctor of Chiropractic. Dr. Dan Reida; my doctor, my friend!”

Robert M. “Tex” Lavery, retired Barnstable and Dennis-Yarmouth teacher

“Since I got in a car accident earlier this year, I have been in a decent amount of pain. I was ejected from the car and that took a toll on my back and neck. I have been coming in three days a week for about a month. So far it has made my whole entire days better. I have more energy, I feel happier with less stress and pain. Pain doesn't go away until you decide to do something about it. On top of the health results, the employees here are amazing.”
